A local electrician, based in Uttoxeter

KS Electrical is run by Kieran Stinson from Uttoxeter, covering homes and businesses across east Staffordshire and south Derbyshire. EV charger installation is the specialist end of it; the rest is rewires, consumer units, inspections, fault finding and new build work.

What we do

The work splits fairly evenly. On one side there's EV charger installation, which has gone from an occasional job to a regular one in a short space of time, home charge points on driveways and garages, and workplace points for businesses.

On the other side there's everything a local electrician does: consumer unit and fuse board upgrades, full and partial rewires, EICRs for landlords and homeowners, fault finding, lighting, outdoor and garden electrics, and first and second fix on new builds and extensions. Domestic and commercial both.

It's deliberately a local business with a local working radius. Most jobs are within about half an hour of Uttoxeter, which is what makes it possible to turn up when we said and to come back if something needs another look.

Qualifications and registration

KS Electrical is a fully qualified electrician and is registered with NAPIT. One of the government-approved Competent Person Schemes for electrical work. In practice that means notifiable work (new circuits, consumer unit changes, work in bathrooms) is self-certified and notified under Part P of the Building Regulations, so you don't need a separate building control application, and you get proper certification for the work.

All applicable insurances are held. If you'd like to see the documentation before work starts, just ask. That's a completely reasonable thing to want, particularly on a larger job.

How we quote

You get a price before the work, not a number at the end. On EV chargers, photographs of the consumer unit, the meter and where the car parks will usually get you a firm figure without anyone needing to visit. On bigger jobs, rewires, boards, anything where the property is going to have a say in the price. It's worth a look first.

If something turns up during the job that isn't in the quote, you get told and asked before it's done. Nobody likes surprises on an invoice.

How we work

Four things we're strict about

  • You get told what's actually wrong

If the fuse board is fine, we'll say it's fine. Recommending work that isn't needed is the fastest way to lose the next job and the recommendation that comes with it.

  • You get a straight answer on timing

Small jobs get grouped by area so travel stays sensible. That means sometimes the honest answer is next week rather than tomorrow, and you'll be told that up front rather than let down on the day.

  • The testing isn't a formality

The measurements at the end are what prove the work is safe, and they're what the certificate is based on. That's why a job takes as long as it takes.

  • It gets left tidy

Dust sheets down, cable routes agreed before anything is chased, and the mess cleared up. It's somebody's house.
